Having someone to rely on is what we all hope for.
However, as people grow older, they may not be able to rely on others, including their children, who have their own jobs and families to take care of. So, in old age, the only person you can truly rely on is yourself.
If you have a solid financial foundation in your old age, life becomes more comfortable. So, why do retirees with pensions live a more comfortable life? Three uncles share their honest opinions.
65-year-old Uncle Zhang
When I was young, I was a government official. After retiring, I stayed at home to take care of my grandkids.
I have three sons, all of whom are married, but they rarely come home due to work. I don’t need to worry about them, and I spend most of my time playing chess and cards with my neighbors.
I think this lifestyle suits me just fine.
During holidays, my kids come back to visit, and my wife and I also like to travel. Having a pension makes me even happier, as I don’t have to rely on my kids and can go wherever I want.
During holidays, we sit down together, eat, and chat. I don’t want to bother them, so I just take care of myself.
I don’t want to worry about their problems because I think they can handle their own issues.
Now, the only thing I want to do is enjoy my old age with my wife, and I don’t want to think about anything else.
63-year-old Uncle Liu
I’ve been retired for several years. At first, I felt a bit lost because I was used to working.
But after retirement, having a pension to support myself makes life more comfortable.
Usually, it’s just my wife and I at home, and our kids rarely come back because of work. We only see them a few times a year, but I still manage to live a comfortable life.
When our kids don’t have time to visit us, we go to see them. Even though it’s expensive, we can afford it with our pensions.
As long as I can spend time with my kids and enjoy family warmth, I’m satisfied.
Now it’s more convenient, and whenever I want to see them, I just buy a ticket, and we can meet up. This also helps alleviate my longing for them.
My kids are busy with work, and we understand that. The only thing we can do is take care of ourselves and not bother them.
During holidays, our kids come back, and we can give them red envelopes, making life more joyful.
I think this lifestyle is pretty good.
67-year-old Uncle Zhou
I’ve been retired for a long time, and after retirement, I felt bored at home, so I started a small chicken farm. Although the income is modest, it’s enough to support myself, and with my pension, I can reduce some of my burdens.
Life is still pretty good, and I’m not bored at home. I thought of doing this to pass the time. At first, my kids didn’t agree with my idea of starting a chicken farm.
They thought I should just enjoy my old age at home.
But I think that in old age, I should do what I want to do. This lifestyle is not tiring for me, and it exercises my body, so I decided to stick with it.
I spent some of my savings to start the farm, and although the monthly income is not high, it’s enough.
When my kids want to eat meat, I can provide it for them. I’m happy to be able to do something for them, and I don’t have to worry about living expenses. I just need to take care of my health and live a happy life.
Now, my life is still pretty comfortable, and I don’t need to worry about my kids. I think my choice was correct.
In reality, why do retirees with pensions live a more comfortable life? The answer is simple: because when you reach a certain age, many things can only rely on yourself.
Having money gives you the confidence to live your life. We all have our own problems, and if you don’t have someone to take care of you, life can be a struggle.
With money, we can take better care of ourselves and go wherever we want. Life becomes much easier.
The beauty of life is created by ourselves, and happiness depends on our own efforts. It’s not about relying on others; only by being strong ourselves can we make life better, regardless of our age.
