They say you should be a little tough in life. Those who are not tough enough on themselves usually won’t achieve much. There’s a saying that the cheapest thing in the world is to have nothing to show for being too gentle.

Sometimes being overly gentle and weak will only make your inner self more anxious. At the right time, learn to be a bit tougher. Being a little tougher at times will eventually lead to success.

Being Tougher on Yourself

Sometimes we are quick to forgive ourselves but find it hard to forgive others. This is what we call having a forgiving heart. People who are too forgiving of themselves tend to be stricter and more demanding of others. Only those who are tough on themselves will live better because if you are not strict enough with yourself, life will deceive you.

I once met a girl who moved to New York City alone seven years ago. At first, she couldn’t afford to rent a place on her own, so she had to share a damp and dark basement with others. She didn’t have a university education, lacked qualifications and skills, so she had to rely on odd jobs to make a living.

Life was tough at the beginning. She earned in a month what others made in just 10 days. She felt defeated and cried alone late at night because she thought that in the vast city of New York, she didn’t even have a place to call her own.

Many times, she thought about giving up and going back to her small hometown to find a stable job and live a peaceful life. But she persisted through it all.

She set a goal for herself to own a house in New York City within seven years. She knew it was just a pipe dream at that time, but she decided to give it a shot.

To work, she never took a break for more than 360 days in a year. Once, she even worked overtime with an IV drip. From the moment we met her, she was a girl who never gave up.

In our eyes, she was incredibly hardworking no matter what she did. After seven years in New York, through her own efforts, she has now become a successful businesswoman.

Being able to endure hardships and be tough on oneself is how we all see her. As the saying goes, “He who endures, conquers.” Those who are tough on themselves will eventually achieve great success.

People who know how to be tough on themselves will not be mistreated by life because life only treats those well who work hard.

Being Tougher on Unworthy Emotions

Some say love is a luxury that is hard to obtain, but I believe true love is not a luxury. It is based on sincerity. In relationships, once we fall in love, we must learn to cherish it. Even if we part ways, we will not regret it.

Reality is not a fairy tale. Good things do not happen to everyone. Some people end up with the wrong person and will only end up losing completely. So when faced with unworthy emotions, we should bravely say no and bravely let go.

Once you step into a relationship and invest your heart, it can be hard to let go. I once had a reader who told me her story. She was with her boyfriend for seven years, but in the end, he married another girl he had only known for three months due to a bride price issue.

When they broke up, she felt devastated, locked herself in her room without eating or drinking, and even suffered from depression. Her parents were very worried about her every day, but she was willing to give up her life for this man.

She did foolish things to try to keep him, but in the end, he saw her actions as immature. When she was crying her heart out for a man, she discovered he was showing affection to another girl. From that moment on, she truly understood that love and lack of love are clear.

When she finally understood, she let go. She said she hoped all girls would understand that they should never try to impress someone who doesn’t love them and learn to let go of unworthy emotions.

Now she has a new life and love. Facing the past, she has learned to let go.

Don’t waste time on unworthy people; it is a wise choice to move on.

Being Tougher on “Bad People”

As the saying goes, give an inch and they’ll take a mile. The most important thing in human relationships is mutual respect. If you can’t even do that, how can you communicate?

Those who are kind are often taken advantage of.

In human interactions, there should always be equality. Being too weak will only make others think you are easy to bully, and naturally, you won’t be respected.

Your kindness must have a bit of sharpness. Sometimes, being a bit indifferent helps distinguish those and things that truly matter. You must understand that not everyone deserves your wholehearted efforts. If your efforts don’t bring returns, it’s not worth maintaining such relationships.

Compared to those who are fake, we hope for sincere communication with each other.

In life, you must learn to be tougher. Don’t waste time on unworthy people or things. Only by freeing up time and space can you do more important things.
